Dilators and Airport Security for our Vaginismus Patients

Part of the Botox treatment program for vaginismus is progressive dilation under anesthesia. After treatment, patients are counseled on proper dilation and a dilation schedule to follow post treatment. Dilation is a very important part of the treatment program. Pure Romance and Pacik Glass Dilators used in the Botox treatment of Vaginismus

Every patient goes home with a set of 6 Pure Romance Vaginal Dilators. Most of our patients also purchase a set of 3 Pacik Glass Dilators which are similar sizes in circumference to the Pure Romance line of dilators but half the length.

It is our experience that it is best to carry these dilators in your carry-on luggage and not in your checked-in luggage just in case your luggage arrives later than you do at your destination. Sometimes luggage can take 24 to 48 hours longer to reach your destination and we feel that it is important not to lose valuable days of dilation because your dilators were in your checked luggage.

Recently, we learned from 2 of our patients that there is a lot of anxiety for them going through security at the airport with these dilators in their carry-on luggage as expressed in the following post on our VaginismusMD Forum:

“I packed the Pure Romance dilators in my suitcase and packed my glass dilators in my carry-on. Boy was I ever nervous. I originally was in a line with women security but at the last minute they moved me to a different line that was all men, which really got my heart racing.”

Dilators while travelingWe knew ahead of time about their anxiety so we gave each of them a letter from our office stating that “This person is under medical treatment and will be traveling with a set of silicone and/or glass dilators, which are medical devices and pose no security threat.” The letter was signed by myself and was on our letterhead.

99% of the time this is not necessary but we feel that it is important for our patients to travel with a letter from office to lessen their anxiety about going through airport security. Starting immediately, ALL patients will receive such a letter from us.

Pacik Glass Dilators

Since Dr. Pacik retired on September 1st, 2015, we are not selling the Pacik Glass dilators through our office anymore but we do have a web page with the manufacturer Crystal Delight where you can still order them. You can order the dilators as a set or individually with or without a pouch.
