Painful sex: When Sex Seems Impossible by Dr. Peter T. Pacik

This sequence of blogs discusses the highlights of each chapter in the vaginismus book  “When Sex Seems Impossible. Stories of Vaginismus and How You Can Achieve Intimacy” to help WhenSexIsImpossible_2understand vaginismus and vaginismus treatment. The hallmark of vaginismus is painful sex and many patients note that “sex seems impossible”. Inability to use tampons and feeling as though attempted penetration is like “hitting a wall” are important vaginismus symptoms.

Typically women who contact us search for terms painful sex,  why is intercourse painful, why can’t I have intercourse. Some who have done more research find the diagnosis of vaginismus and search for vaginismus treatment.

The book “When Sex Seems Impossible” takes the reader through chapters starting with an understanding of vaginismus and progressing through treatment using the Botox multimodal program, expected results and outcomes.

The table of contents and the first two chapters can be read in their entirety.

Chapter 1 Vaginismus Book: When Sex Seems Impossible by Peter T. Pacik, MD

This book includes the many stories that women have shared with me. I felt that these stories needed to be told to help other women understand vaginismus. The first chapter is a true story of Theresa (her namewas changed for privacy) and Upset Vaginismus Cuplestarts with how she prepared to marry the man of her dreams. Having been raised as a Catholic she waited until she was married to have intercourse. As a newlywed she looked forward to her special night. She dabbed on some perfume and donned a sexy white teddy-her “honeymoon teddy”. It was not to be. She writes: “I felt like I was going to implode if he put his penis in me” as she described the sudden fear and panic that overcame her. She, like so many of my patients, described her honeymoon as a “disaster”. She struggled for twenty-six years investigating every treatment that she could find before contacting me. Childless and now approaching menopause she never gave up in her desire to fulfill her marriage. The story has a happy ending, however it is a long road to recovery following so many years of sexual pain.
